Meet the designer: Sally Beers
With more than 30 years in the design business, Sally is no rookie.
Sally Beers joined forces with Marc Skid creator Dan Barry to help take Marc Skid undies from a dream to a reality. Her expertise in design and pattern making helps ensure that Marc Skid products are designed to perfection.
According to Sally, it’s the key details that separate Marc Skid from other apparel companies.
“Marc Skid uses a great organic Pima fabric that feels good on, and the recycled elastic in the waistband adds an important environmental component,” Sally said.
One of Sally’s favorite parts of the brand is the perfect fit. She says she’d love to help expand Marc Skid’s line in the future because it’s fun to work with simple, direct plans and high-quality fabrics.
“Dan brings a fun, hands-on approach to the business,” Sally said. “He has a great personality to work with, and he chose some really nice fabrics that create a great fit.”
After studying fashion design at New York City’s prestigious Parson’s School of Design, Sally owned and operated her own women’s sportswear line that sold to major department and specialty stores, including Barney’s, Bloomingdales and Saks Fifth Avenue. She produced several fashion shows and videos, had designs featured in WWD, Vogue, Mademoiselle, Elle, Details and The New York Times, and was featured on national television.
Additionally, Sally has worked as a pattern marker for Jones NY, where she worked on a team to start a denim division for the line.
In 1996 after years of experience with huge brands, Sally realized she liked working with a smaller, more innovative approach, so she took design and pattern making and started her own company. Sally’s company, Pattern-Design, works with smaller designer startups to create new, creative designs. Today, Sally works with a handful of clients out of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
