7 Ways You Can Go Green This St. Patrick’s Day

Remember that feeling when you strutted into elementary school and forgot to wear green on St. Patrick’s Day? All your friends couldn’t wait to pinch and tease you. With St. Patrick’s Day right around the corner, it’s time to start thinking green. It’s one thing if you forget to wear green, but you should never forget about going green for the planet. Here are 7 easy ways you can help save our planet by going green:

1. Save Water

Enjoying a nice, long shower after a hard day feels amazing for you, but not for the environment. Many of us unconsciously waste water every single day. Think about it, how many times have you left the water running while you stare in the mirror brushing your pearly whites? How about when you can hear your toilet running, but you figure you’ll fix it some other time? According to an article by the Washington Post, Americans waste over 1 trillion gallons of water every year just by ignoring leaks. Unfortunately, we’re all guilty of it one way or another, but each of us can help by making small changes to our daily routines. So take shorter showers, turn off the sink, check for leaks and stop wasting water. The environment will thank you and so will your bank account.

2. Take notes online

Put away your notebook when you can and take notes on your laptop or tablet. Americans use 85,000,000 tons of paper a year. That’s roughly 680 pounds per person. Why waste paper when you have a reusable keyboard right at your fingertips?

3. Walk, bike or carpool

Start walking to class, biking to work, taking the bus or catching a ride with your neighbor. Chances are that wherever you need to go, someone else is headed that way too. In the grand scheme of things, it will make all the difference.

4. Recycle and reduce waste

Recycling and reducing waste are extremely important. So much of our plastics are ending up in the ocean and destroying the ecosystems that call it their only home. Plastics that aren’t recycled are also filling up unnecessary space in landfills.

Scientists estimate, 91% of plastic isn’t recycled. They predict if our habits continue, there will be 12 million metric tons of plastics in landfills by 2050.

5. Reduce your energy usage

We all waste energy that is easily avoidable. Get in the habit of turning off the lights when you aren’t using them and unplugging electronics when they are finished charging.

6. Borrow instead of buying

Think about borrowing from a friend rather than buying something brand new. New products take energy to make, often use heavy packaging and they take even energy to ship the product to you. Buying something used reduces the energy needed and also saves you money.

7. Give back

Marc Skid values the importance of giving back. In fact, we’re the world’s first socially conscious and charitable underwear line. We are the only underwear company exclusively using organic Pima cotton and upcycled plastic.

$4 from every pair of Marc Skid underwear is donated to one of nine charities to help Cure the ill, Feed the hungry, and Save our beautiful world. In honor of celebrating St. Patrick’s day and going green we recommend rocking a pair of our, of course, green underwear. That way nobody can pinch you and you’re also taking a step to helping our planet.
