3 websites to help you volunteer

We all like the idea of giving back and volunteering our time, but when it comes down to it, we don't do it as much as we should. But why? Of a whole host of excuses, a big one is that it's kind of hard to know what opportunities are out there--and if they'll be things that are the right fit for you.

These sites and apps are out to change that. Check them out and get started changing the world!

1. VolunteerMatch.org

VolunteerMatch is the largest network for nonprofits. So far, 14.4 million volunteers have been connected with causes they care about. And don't worry, with 123,000 nonprofits in their network, there's sure to be an opportunity that's right for you.

Just create an account, browse needs in your area or virtual opportunities and go from there!

2. Idealist.org

Idealist is similar to VolunteerMatch, but also catalogs jobs and internships that support certain causes, along with volunteer opportunities. Their mission is "to close the gap between intention and action by connecting people, organizations, ideas, and resources". So go ahead, get to acting!

3. PointsOfLight.org/HandsOnNetwork

Hands On Network by Points of Light helps people make a difference in their communities by connecting you with volunteer opps. (Sound familiar?) Points of Light also has several other programs that encourage volunteering. Look into them, and see if there are ways you and your company can get involved in your community.

Not ready to commit to volunteering your time just yet? Start small. When you shop for products that are sustainable and give back, you put a little good into the universe (and get something in return, too). Take Marc Skid underwear for example - for every pair you buy, we donate $4 to the nonprofit of your choice. You can make your Marc on the world all from your couch!
