Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Makes Its Marc
Posted by Bold Commerce Collaborator on
Making a Marc “All Lives Have Equal Value” proclaims the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation on its website. The subheading explains that this organization is made up of “impatient optimists working to reduce inequity.” Founded by one of the wealthiest power couples in the world, the Gates Foundation seeks to lead people, in America and in developing nations, out of poverty. The primary belief of the group is that people get out of poverty when they “access quality healthcare and a great education.” Through grant-making and other investments, the organization “supports schools in their work to improve student...
Afroz Shah - Prosecutor of Plastic Pollution

Making a Marc Afroz Shah and Cleaning Beaches A young attorney in Mumbai, India, Afroz Shah was concerned about the litter that clogged Mumbai’s Versova Beach. Together with a much older friend, the now-deceased Harbansh Mathur, Shah determined to do something to restore Versova Beach to sandy beauty. As reported in a United Nations press release, the pair “decided to take on the piles of rubbish that had completely covered what was then the dirtiest beach in Mumbai. They started with picking up the trash themselves, and over time the cleanup grew into a national movement, with everyone...
Looptworks Really Works To Keep It Green
Posted by Bold Commerce Collaborator on
“I started Marc Skid because I believed that brands should be more like the people we love in life. I had some inclination about many aspects of the brand -- using organic Pima cotton and giving a helping hand to those in need...

Chris says, “If I Can . . .” I say, “Could I?"
Posted by Dan Barry on
On a flight to California, I watched a short film about Chris Koch. His story inspired me and touched me deeply. I don’t think Chris would mind me saying this since he enjoys a good sense of humor but the quote “Never judge another person until you’ve walked a mile in his shoes” would not be applicable in Chris’ case. With regards to people who inspire us, it is human nature to ask: How would I respond in similar circumstances? In Chris’ situation, it is almost impossible to understand his immense verve and appreciation for life and giving back. One...
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle & REPAIR?
Posted by Dan Barry on
We all hear about how we should be helping the planet more. We hear the phrase “REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE” so often, you probably only had to read that first word to know the next two that came after it. But let’s introduce a new word to that. REPAIR. It goes nicely don’t you think? You may think, “But I’m not handy, or a craftsperson, so how am I supposed to repair?” Here are 3 easy ways to repair items and keep them out of landfills. Patches Patches are in -- and the perfect way to give your...
